Oh boy! This one was a tear jerker.
Put yourself in this position, for a moment:
You are a brilliant strategist with an agile mind.
You are born into one of the most politically intense periods in time.
Because you are a female, your gifts are under appreciated.
Your political value lies in marrying the proper man and producing his heirs. This is expected of you.
You don’t want to have children. But because you ARE so strategic, you recognize the position a good marriage affords you and your family.
You marry. You have only one heir, one child.
You love this child. He’s the light of your life. You love your husband, too, and he you (get the hankerchief ready).
Your only child dies.
Your husband leaves you; he’s been engaged in battle.
EVERYONE is chattering, “Will the King seek a different, more fertile, wife?”
